Hello...New (old) Friend

Hey everyone...just got back from a great weekend in Milwaukee. Friday night I met an old friend I haven't seen since high school, (shame on me), Robin Ewing. Robin and I graduated from Bay View High School. We we're in the musicals together, Swing Choir, Choir.

It was a great time to catch up and talk about the days of yore! I don't think we'll have to wait so long to do it again. Here's a picture of us at a very nice bar in Milwaukee, called "Taylor's". Good jazz and good company!

Beautiful Work

Hey all, just wanted to share some beautiful artwork being produced for the New Superman comic strip in USA Today!
I've been enjoying each week's installment, and marveled at the superb art being done. (And I do encourage you to click on the image at left, to truly appreciate the great art!)
Man it is breathtaking to see some of the best comic art being created for funny books these days!

The Healing Blanket

Today I have a very special post about my "healing blanket", and how it came to be. September 19 is a very special date for me. One year ago from this day, I came home after a week stay in the hospital. I had a tumor on my right kidney, and I had to have it removed.
My stay in the hospital was tough, but made easier by a special blanket, a special friend loaned me. It was a handmade quilt, sewn with special keepsakes, that mattered much to my friend, and saw her through her own ordeal.
I decided, I too, needed such a gift, one that would comfort me, and hopefully others too; that would say, "this too I will conquer and win"! One year later I pose with my new "Healing Blanket". It means a great deal about what we endure and why!

No Library! (How lame is that?)

This news is so crazy, horrible and sad that I can't believe it's real: On Oct. 2 all Philadelphia public libraries are scheduled to close. Because of budget shortfalls, the city that gave us libraries courtesy of Ben Franklin, Philadelphia will close all of their libraries on that date.

Really? Has it gotten that bad? Really?

Just in time for Movie time!

Yesterday when Toni got home, she calls out, "Pat get the door"! I open the door for her, and in walks Toni with a box containing a DVD player and 17 movies!
She tell's me; they were having a raffle at work for some charity, and she bought a ticket to help out. It turns out, they picked her number and she won all these goodies! (Oh, and there was a big basket of movie type candy too!)
The movies are all really good ones. Just in time too. Its getting colder outside, and its going to be a long winter, (again)!

Back to Beauty and the Beast!

Pat here with a wee small update before I hit the sack. I just started another round of marathon TV episodes...this time I'm watching Beauty and the Beast!
I loved this show when it was on the air, it was tragically cut short, when Linda Hamilton wanted out of her contract to pursue a movie career. (How'd that work out?) Oops!
But I agree with Chris, why is it whenever Hollywood has some acting gig that requires prosetic make-up, they automatically think, "hey, give Ron Perlman a call?"

Quick, nice weekend!

Well I had a really nice weekend in Milwaukee. Got to see some family, friends and see some of the old gang for another rousing adventure, (or two). I didn't see everyone I would have liked too, but then...there's never enough time to do that.

"I'll be back soon I promise!" ;)

New Beatles...(Not so much)

Hi groovy guys and gals...I just listened to the new (old) Beatles CD of Help!
I wish I could gush its praise, but...not so much. I first listened to it in the car on my way home from the store. (I thought; "gee this isn't really all that improved?") I then loaded it on my ipod, and again; this time comparing the new CD to the original, not too different.
I then threw the original CD and the new one on my Panasonic surround system, and there the differences were more profound; but again, not so much. "I'd advise anyone thinking of upgrading their library, buy only the titles you really love, and then compare them". I don't think I'll be buying any more of the "NEW" Cd's.

All work-No play....

Hi ho-Pat-o here with a lil' update. Not much to update. Chris is back at school, Toni and I are hard at work, at that means; not a whole lot of new art to post.
And so, "TA-DA"!, some old art. Here's some Disney doodles I was working up a while back. It's kind of like peeking behind the curtain to see how it's done. What do ya' think?
Hope to have some new stuff soon!
Music I'm currently listening too, "I'm a Loser", by John Lennon and Paul McCartney!

Ripping good tale

Hey and good morning...Pat here with a tidbit about a great adventure yarn with wee-small heroes. Mouse Guard by David Petersen. I discovered this budding artist's work about 2 years back, and he is an amazingly creative story teller.
Mouse Guard is a fantasy sword and sorcery epic told with mice as the main characters. Its a surprisingly solid story and wonderful art. (I guess if you were going to compare it to something, its kinda' like Watership Down meets Dungeons and Dragons!) I've enjoyed the heck out of these tales. I recommend them! ;)

Phoebe the Freebie!

Lost a couple of hours today, feeding, petting, and talking to one of the friendliest cats to pass this way in quite a while. We nick-named her Phoebe the freebie, Cat! She made herself quite at home in the gazebo. She was so nice. You know she has to be someone's house cat, because her fur was nice and clean. But such a friendly devil! She was a temptress that one!

Post Office Crisis

Pat here with a frightening tale today. Christopher and I went to the post office to send a package off. We arrive, and find a long line for the counter. Needless to say, we are waiting a while.

Suddenly, the woman in front of me, pushes backward, and the next thing I see, there is an old man, laying on the floor. He had passed out. He begins to stir, is feebly trying to rise, and several people, (including me), are telling him lie still a moment, and get your wits about you. I could see that he wasn't well. Someone grabbed a chair that they had at the post office, and we got him in the chair. He was quite pale, disoriented and was shaking badly. (Meanwhile I told Chris to call 911 on his cell phone.)

Another elderly guy came in and said he had brought Jim to the post office. I'm looking into his face asking him, Jim do you know where you are? Jim? He feebly replied no. Fortunately the EMT's arrived 3 minuets later, and Jim was in good hands.

FYI...THE POSTAL WORKERS DID NOTHING THE ENTIRE TIME WE WE'RE ATTENDING TO JIM!

Beatles Forever!

I'm a Beatles fan. A fanatic! I love and cherish all things-Beatles! So it is with great anticipation that I await the release of the remastered Beatles catalogue. (I'll probably get them all!) (*Sigh!~) Like I said, I am a nut about the Beatles.
The new Cd's are being remastered, and reprocessed. The original EMI library from the sixties, was tinny and shrill, (because the heavy bass sounds would literally skip the record needle). Now for the first time, you'll hear the full-bodied thump of Paul's bass. The studio, noise, and casual remarks, as the lads from Liverpool recorded their magic!
I can't wait!~
