Wow! Two posts in one morning, BONUS!
I've started watching the TV Series Victory at Sea. A WWII documentary first broadcast on NBC way back in 1952-1953. It was a TV project conceived by producer Henry Salomon who was a sailor in the second world war. NBC approved the project with a budget of $500,000. (A LOT of money back in 1953). Salomon's team combed through 60 million feet of Navy achieve film to edit the 61,000 ft. of film used for the 26 half-hour episodes.
The music is still enjoyable, although I have learned that the Richard Rodgers music was really a score by Robert Russell Bennett. Rodgers wrote 12 short one minute piano cues, that eventually became the recurrent themes heard through-out the series.
Its still one of the best documentaries made on WWII.
