Behold! The Pineapple

The first European to encounter a pineapple, was Christopher Columbus in November, 1493. Christopher was on his 2nd Voyage, and had anchored in a cove of Guadeloupe!
From the beginning, it was love at first taste. But for years afterward, it remained an expensive delicacy. In the 1700's, American colonist would feature it as a prime feature to any feast visited upon company.
It became a communal symbol of friendship and hospitality. A favorite motif of architects and artisans.
It now is displayed in my living room, but soon to be a part of Gene and Wynne's Lake house.
